The Fear Doesn’t Leave First. You Do.

Being in the middle of a change — especially one you chose — is equal parts electric and terrifying.

I started my business at 26, with a feeling I couldn’t ignore: I wasn’t put on this planet to sell post and pans that eventually ended up in a dumpster only to make some white man richer. There had to be more than that. Most people around me weren’t talking about mission-driven business, or about equity, or about building something that actually meant something. I did it anyway.

That was 23 years ago.

Since then, I’ve survived recessions, reinventions, mutinies, industry shifts, personal upheavals, and more moments of “what am I even doing” than I can count. I’ve made the hardest calls. I’ve said no when it cost me. I’ve started over more than once. And through all of it, the thing that kept me moving wasn’t a perfect plan.

It was bravery. Imperfect, uncomfortable, sometimes terrifying bravery.

I’ve watched so many brilliant women get stuck — not because they don’t know what to do, but because they’re waiting to feel ready. Waiting for the fear to pass. Waiting for someone to tell them it’s okay to go.

It’s not coming. The fear doesn’t leave. You have to make a move, and then it gets smaller.

So here, for every woman building something that matters who needs a reason to take the next step, here are a whole bunch:

  1. You already know what you need to do. You’ve known for a while. The work is trusting it.
  2. The version of you who plays it safe is not the one who changes anything.
  3. Bravery isn’t the absence of fear. It’s deciding your vision is bigger than your doubt.
  4. Every woman who paved the way before you was also scared. She went anyway.
  5. Nature doesn’t wait for perfect conditions to bloom. Neither should you.
  6. When something scares you a little, that’s your intuition pointing toward something real.
  7. You will have to give something up to make a real change. That’s not a warning. That’s the path.
  8. Love for yourself is not indulgent. It is the foundation of everything you’re building.
  9. “No” is a complete sentence. So is “Yes.” Know which one you’ve been avoiding.
  10. Asking for help doesn’t make you less. It makes you honest.
  11. Control is an illusion. The sooner you release it, the sooner you can actually move.
  12. You are connected to every woman who has ever built something from nothing. You are not alone in this.
  13. The moon doesn’t apologize for its cycles. You don’t have to apologize for yours.
  14. Uncovering what you’re really here to do — and doing it — is one of the most alive feelings there is.
  15. If you think you’d regret not taking the next step, take it now.
  16. You can change your mind as many times as you want.
  17. You have everything you need inside you. You are not waiting to become someone. You already are her.

You can do this.
